According to the High Elves magic was created by the laughter or song of the god Waenlan when she was only a young girl. Gaining Waenlan’s favor is not believed necessary for the use of magic, but it is considered polite to respect and honor the god that created the magic you used. Magic is believed to be somehow innately understandable to those who become the greatest wizards. It is said that some of the High Elves are so dependent on magic that it could be described as an addiction.
High Elves have unwritten rules on who is allowed to teach the arcane arts. All teachers must have studied long enough to gain the status of a master on their profession. Even then it is advisable to only teach your own area of expertise for fear of misinformation. It is strictly forbidden to teach any magic to anyone before you reach the status of a master.
The area of dream magic is one of the most difficult areas of the arcane arts and often recommended only for those who demonstrated particular talent in the realm of dream weaving. By many High Elves it is considered even somewhat a holy subject and always approached with particular carefulness, extreme caution and devotion.
